Boutique bed and breakfast near Carcassonne. Incredibly peaceful and relaxing Le Chai de Marguerite has beautiful, comfortable rooms and a gorgeous garden and pool from which to explore this glorious wine region in South West France.

Le Chai de Marguerite is a restored “Maison de Maître” in a pretty wine village. The large, elegantly decorated rooms retain many original features. The garden and pool are a great place to just chill out after a day discovering the fascinating history of the Minervois.
In between Carcassonne and Narbonne, in the heart of the Montagne Noire, just by the Canal du Midi, there is plenty to see and do as well as discover the wonderful wine and restaurants in the area.

Discover local villages by bicycle and the Montagne Noire is a renowned area for motorbike trips. I have a big garage where you can park your bikes and motorbikes safely ! Family groups welcome !

Relax as long as you like in the garden with a book and a drink and a refreshing dip every so often. Pool towels provided.
Start the day gently
Take your time over a delicious continental breakfast of fresh bread and croissants, home made jams and fruits. Served outside under the pergola when the sun is shining … which is most of the time.
Wine Tasting
There are many vineyards nearby that offer tastings and there are organized wine tasting tours available also. Please let me know what you are looking for and I can make recommendations and help with bookings.
There’s loads to see and do in le Pays Cathare. Please feel free to ask for advice and directions!
Cité de Carcassonne (25 minutes)
Unesco World Heritage site. Medieval walled castle and village. Legend has it that it inspired Walt Disney’s design for the castle in Sleeping Beauty.
Abbaye de Caunes Minervois (10 minutes)
The early medieval abbey of Caunes Minervois is a few minutes drive away.
Olonzac (15 minutes)
Discover its bustling market on Tuesday mornings.
Minerve (30 minutes)
Listed as one of the most beautiful villages in France, Minerve is the historic hilltop site that gave the region its name.
Châteaux Lastours (25 minutes)
Strategically vital in the middle ages, the 4 Lastours castles are a fascinating place to explore.
Narbonne (45 minutes)
There is lots to see and do in Narbonne visit NarboVia Roman Museum, and the gothic Palais des Archeveques, or linger at a café on the Canal du Midi. People come from all over France to eat at Les Grands Buffets and there is plenty of fun to be had eating at the covered market Les Halles too.
Abbaye de Fontfroide (45 minutes)
One of France’s most beautiful Cistercian abbeys situated at the edge of the Corbieres region. Surrounded by forest, the abbey is a haven of serenity.
Seaside (50 minutes)
50 minutes away from the closest sandy beach there are many beautiful seaside villages to discover.
Sustainability
I am trying to run Le Chai de Marguerite as sustainably as possible.
The house is furnished with a lot of pre-loved and vintage furniture and much of the crockery and cutlery comes from my family or foraging trips to local brocantes.
Where possible food is organic and sourced from local suppliers. Cleaning products are selected to be as light on the environment as possible (organic or natural products, large formats, recycled and /or minimum plastic.
The garden is being evolved to be less water consuming and no pesticides are used.
Appliances are selected for longevity and energy levels.
Plans to change heating systems and suppliers are underway.
